UGA vs. South Carolina prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins the matchup between the Bulldogs and Gamecocks.

UGA vs. South Carolina Game Preview

When: Saturday, October 8 – 7:30 p.m. ET
Where: Williams-Brice Stadium, Columbia, SC
TV Broadcast: SEC Network

How does Georgia recover after such a heartbreaking loss to Tennessee on the Hail Mary? The Bulldogs had it won, until they didn’t, and now Kirby Smart must rally his troops for a trap game in Columbia.

The Gamecocks, on the other hand, put up a valiant effort against Texas A&M, but just couldn’t put enough points on the board to pull off the upset. Will Muschamp’s defense has been solid, but for South Carolina to start winning, some sort of offense must show up.

What To Know About UGA

They have a young quarterback, a young coach, and must now quickly get over a stunning loss to rival Tennessee. Quarterback Jacob Eason has proven himself to be clutch, leading the Bulldogs down the field for the go-ahead touchdown with 10 seconds left before the Volunteers’ heroics. If ready to go, getting running back Nick Chubb back will be of great help to the Bulldogs offense.

Georgia’s defense must find a way to stop allowing so many points. The Bulldogs are 89th in the country, giving up 30.8 points per game. Stopping a South Carolina offense that has been unproductive should be a nice salve.

What to Know About South Carolina

Unsurprisingly, the Gamecocks offense has struggled in their first season under head coach Will Muschamp. The quarterback situation is as fuzzy as ever, with both Perry Orth and Brandon McIlwain seeing time in the loss to Texas A&M. Running back A.J. Turner was a bright spot in the defeat, rushing for 113 yards and a touchdown to give the Gamecocks a little spark.

South Carolina’s defense has been solid, allowing only 18.6 points per game. Stopping the running game if Chubb is back and putting pressure on the young Eason in a tough environment would be beneficial to the Gamecocks.

Advantages

Offense: UGA. Eason has all the makings of a star.

Defense: South Carolina. Say what you want about Muschamp, but his teams always play tough defense.

Special Teams: South Carolina. The Georgia field goal attempts have been a mess.

Coaching: UGA. Both are in their first season with their respective schools, but Smart doesn’t carry the baggage of a failed first go-round and then a tepid stopover in between head coaching stints.

Intangibles: UGA. The Dawgs need to put the last-second loss to Tennessee behind them and go get a victory.

Matchup To Watch

Jacob Eason vs. South Carolina defense

The Gamecocks are allowing only 201.8 passing yards per game and can put pressure on Eason.

UGA vs. South Carolina Betting Odds

Spread: UGA -7.5

UGA vs. South Carolina Prediction

The Bulldogs have lost two in a row in totally different fashion: one a complete blowout and the other a heartbreaker. Now, it is time for Smart to prove that he can be a head coach at the highest level, and that means getting his team prepared for a tough road test against a solid defense. If South Carolina could ever put together an offense, I would be tempted to pick them in an upset here, but that hasn’t been the case this year. Bulldogs bounce back with a win.

UGA vs. South Carolina Score Prediction: UGA 27, South Carolina 13
