Grab your spoons and let’s party, because on Saturday, February 11, No. 15 Virginia travels north to face No. 5 Loyola Maryland at the Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore. Even more fun, the game will be broadcast via live stream on both Campus Insiders and Twitter.
Loyola is coming off its fourth ever trip to the NCAA D1 semifinals, and returns seven starters as it looks to push forth toward a national championship this year. Among those returning starters is Brian Sherlock, the program’s active career leader in goals and total points.
On the other sideline is a Virginia team that’s eager to put the offseason in the rearview mirror. In late January, sophomore midfielder Phil Menson Poquie was dismissed from the team for what head coach Lars Tiffany deemed unacceptable behavior within the program. Last summer, veteran goalkeeper Matt Barrett was arrested for drug possession in Ocean City and was suspended indefinitely. Suffice to say, the Cavaliers will be happy to be back on the field.
Saturday’s game will be the 21st meeting between Virginia and Loyola Maryland, with UVA holding a 13-7 series lead. However, Loyola won last year’s matchup in Charlottesville, 11-4.
