Five-star offensive tackle Walker Little committed to Stanford on Friday, giving the Cardinal eight commits in the 2017 recruiting class.

Davis Mills is one of the best high school football players in the country. There’s a reason why he’s ranked as the No. 1 quarterback in the nation, and David Shaw’s Cardinal staff is happy to have him.

But all quarterbacks need to be protected within the pocket, and Shaw just took care of that.

On Friday, 5-star offensive lineman Walker Little committed to Stanford over his home-state Texas Longhorns.

Little, who’s from Bellaire, Texas, is ranked as the No. 2 offensive tackle and No. 16 overall player in the country.

The addition of Little gives the Cardinal 299 recruiting points, bringing its total to 1,536. Stanford now moves up from No. 51 to No. 34 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings.

It was believed the Longhorns’ hiring of Tom Herman could be enough to keep Little in the Lone Star State. The new Texas head coach paid Little’s family an in-home visit almost two weeks ago, and it went great. However, Herman had an uphill battle in Little’s recruitment being that he had entered the race so late in the game.

It will be up to Shaw’s staff to make sure that pledge sticks, as the Longhorns certainly won’t give up until Little’s National Letter of Intent is sent to Stanford.

At 6-foot-8, 305 lbs Little is everything a coach wants in an offensive tackle. Aside from the massive frame, the 5-star prospect has a mean streak he unleashes every time he’s asked to run block. Little will bury defensive linemen into the ground when given the chance. As he improves his footwork and technique as a pass blocker, he’ll evolve into an all-around threat and true left tackle.

Tom Crean Deserved Better From Indiana

Tom Crean rebuilt the Indiana program, then became a victim of his own success. The school's administration - and the Hoosiers' fan base - owed him more than an undeserved dismissal.
