Washington vs. Washington State prediction and game preview. Projecting who wins Friday afternoon’s matchup between the Huskies and Cougars.

When: Friday, Nov. 25 – 3:30 p.m. ET
Where: Martin Stadium, Pullman, Washington
TV Broadcast: FS1

Well, that was exactly what Chris Petersen’s team needed. A week after losing to USC, 26-13, Washington (10-1) bounced back with a huge — but expected — win over Arizona State, 44-18. The Huskies went into halftime with a 24-0 lead and held the Sun Devils to only three points through the first three quarters.

Washington State (8-3) suffered its first Pac-12 loss of the season on Saturday when it fell to Colorado, 38-24. It was also the Cougars’ first loss since Sept. 10 when they lost to Boise State, 31-28. Wazzu went into halftime with a 17-14 lead, but couldn’t muster any offense in the fourth quarter.

The all-time series in the Apple Cup greatly favors the Huskies, 70-32-6. Washington has taken the last three meetings with Washington State, including last season’s meeting in Seattle, 45-10.

What To Know About Washington

Jake Browning has been brilliant for most of the season, but he’s wavered in the past few weeks. In the win over Arizona State, he completed 27-of-44 passes for 338 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Dante Pettis caught one of those touchdowns, and he finished with seven catches for 105 yards. Chico McClatcher caught other score and had two grabs for 88 yards. John Ross finished with 12 receptions for 95 yards.

Myles Gaskin kept the chains moving on the ground. The Huskies’ tailback ran for 127 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. He got some help from Lavon Coleman, who took 11 touches for 47 rushing yards and a touchdown.

What to Know About Washington State

Luke Falk has also seen more ups than downs this season. In the loss to Colorado, the Wazzu quarterback went off for 325 yards, three touchdowns and a pick on 26-of-53 passing. Robert Lewis and John Thompson each caught one of those touchdowns from Falk, and they combined for five catches and 39 yards. Jamal Morrow caught two passes for 48 yards and a touchdown as well.

Morrow was unable to find the end zone on the ground, but he did take seven rushing attempts for 87 yards. Gerard Wicks added 38 rushing yards on seven carries of his own. And James Williams was held to 16 yards on four touches.

Offense: Washington State – Browning is a talented quarterback, but Falk has been playing better as of late.

Defense: Washington – Even with the losses of Azeem Victor and Joe Mathis to injuries, the Huskies are still better on defense.

Special Teams: Washington – Cameron Van Winkle hasn’t been great. He’s hit 13-of-17 field goals, but he’s been better than Erik Powell, who’s hit 6-of-12 field goals.

Coaching: Washington – Mike Leach knows how to put up points, but Petersen is a great head coach overall.

Matchup To Watch

Jake Browning vs. Luke Falk

This is a matchup that any college football fan would love to watch. Falk will most likely leave Wazzu early to enter the NFL Draft after this season, and Browning will likely do the same after the 2017 season. But for this matchup, they’re both going to have to step up and deliver memorable performances in order to not only win Apple Cup bragging rights but to take the Pac-12 North. Whichever quarterback delivers in the clutch will come out on top.

Betting Odds

Spread: Washington -6

Washington vs. Washington State Prediction

Washington has played a helluva season up to this point. Ross, Pettis and Gaskin have all been great weapons for Browning. But it seems as though Wazzu is going to pull this one off. Falk has been spinning the ball beautifully, and he’ll do that again in the Apple Cup. Both he and Browning will each throw for more than 300 yards and a few touchdowns. Wicks and Morrow will play small roles but will help move the chains, but the same can be said for Gaskin. When it’s all said and done, Falk will hook up with Gabe Marks for a touchdown, and the Cougars will go out on top.

Washington vs. Washington State Score Prediction: Washington State 42, Washington 38
