Washington vs. Washington State prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen during Friday’s game between the Huskies and Cougars.

Jeff Bartl

I want to see Washington overthrow a lot of the East Coast bias by crashing the Playoff, but I also want to see Washington State play in a New Year’s Six bowl because Mike Leach is one of the most interesting men in the world. Jake Browning is going to beat Luke Falk in a shootout, as Washington takes another step closer to the CFP.

Jonathan Bass

The Apple Cup is relevant again! Washington’s defense stifles Wazzu, who is a noticeably different team without River Cracraft. Mike Leach’s postgame presser should be interesting, as he opines on losing a chance to play in the conference title game after falling to a bitter rival in Pullman.

Dave Miller

This edition of the Apple Cup is being played in Pullman, so Chris Petersen’s Huskies certainly have a tough task in front of them. But quarterback Jake Browning has plenty of weapons at his disposal, including John Ross, Dante Pettis and Myles Gaskin. This is still a nasty defense despite losing Azeem Victor and Joe Mathis to injuries, and this unit is why I think U-Dub is going to be able to escape this rivalry game with a win. Luke Falk, Gabe Marks and the Wazzu offense will cause problems for the Huskies, but a late defensive stop allows U-Dub to escape Pullman with a victory.

Matt Stanford

After watching the Cougs get out-muscled in the 4th quarter in Boulder, Wazzu faces another bruising defense in Washington. If WSU is going to win, it’s going to have to keep Jake Browning from having a big day and give Luke Falk enough bites at the apple (see what I did there) to find holes in that talented UW secondary. Having rushed the field at both Husky Stadium and Martin Stadium wearing crimson and gray it’s clear I’m biased in this matchup, but I honestly think the Cougs can control the clock with their three-headed rushing attack and keep that UW defense off balance enough to take advantage of some big play opportunities. WSU books a trip to its first PAC-12 title game in what will prove to be an Apple Cup for the ages.

Brian Stultz

We recently put up a Washington State flag here in the office, and then the Cougs went out and lost to Colorado. Thanks for jinxing it, Jonathan!

As much as it would be fun to see Luke Falk and company in the Pac-12 title game, I am seeing a Washington win here. Sorry, Matt. Hug it out?
