Danny Manning: 1988 Championship
Before he became one of the NBA‘s top sixth men, Danny Manning put up one of the greatest March Madness performances. In 1988, Manning led the underdog Kansas Jayhawks against the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners.
This Jayhawk team became known as “Danny and The Miracles.” Manning had the game of his life as he put his team on his back to win the national title
Danny finished with 31 points, 18 rebounds, 5 steals, and 2 blocks and earned MVP honors.
Carmelo Anthony: 2003 Tournament Run
Carmelo Anthony is arguably the greatest diaper dandy(freshman player) of all time. He sealed this status with one of the greatest March Madness performances ever in 2003.
All year, Anthony was unstoppable and he took it to another level in the tournament. In the Final Four, Anthony led Syracuse past Texas with a monster performance by putting up 33 points and 14 rebounds.
Then in the championship game, Carmelo cemented his college legacy by putting up 20 and 10 to win the championship.This was the first and only title that the Syracuse basketball program has ever won.
Glen Rice: 1989 Tournament Run
In 1989, Glen Rice was arguably the best men’s college basketball player in the country. After putting up one of the greatest March Madness performances, nobody argued this claim.
Throughout the tournament, Rice led Michigan to dominate the competition. During March Madness, Glen scored a total of 184 points and averaged 27 PPG.
He helped lead Michigan to their first national title and laid the foundations for the Fab 5. Years later, Michigan retired his #41 jersey to honor his incredible college career.
Christian Laetner: 1992 Elite Eight Game
Thirty plus years later and people are still talking about Christian Laetner’s performance in 1992. Basketball payers strive for perfection and that’s exactly what Laetner did in Elite Eight Game vs. Kentucky.
Christian went perfect going 10 for 10 from the field and free throw line. Duke was able to tie the game and sent it to overtime and Laetner his the game-winning shot.
The Blue Devils went on to win the national title and Laetner became a college legend.
Bill Walton: 1973 Championship
In 1973, the UCLA Bruins won their historic record-setting 7th championship in a row. The 7th seventh national title was won by one of the greatest March Madness performances ever by Bill Walton.
That night, Walton put up 41 points and made 21 of 22 shots from the floor. This dominant performance led UCLA past Memphis State 87 to 66. Many college basketball experts consider this the greatest performance in the tournament’s history.
