College Basketball Father-Son Duos
Lebron and Bronny James are set to become the first father/son duo to play together in the NBA. This hasn’t happened in pro sports since Ken Griffey Sr and Jr played on the same team.
Before Lebron and Bronny, there have been many sons who walked in their father’s footsteps and played college basketball. Here is a list of the most prominent college basketball father-son duos.
Michael and Marcus Jordan
Let’s start off our list of the most prominent college basketball father-son duos with Michael and Marcus Jordan. Michael Jordan is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time.
Before he became an NBA legend, Michael made a name for himself with the North Carolina Tar Heels. During his college career, Jordan won an NCAA title and won an ACC POTY award.
His son, Marcus would earn a scholarship to play for the University of Central Florida. Marcus played at UCF for three seasons where he averaged 12 ppg.
Dell Curry/Steph Curry/ Seth Curry
Steph Curry is arguably the greatest pure shooter in the history of the NBA. He is also part of one of the famous college basketball father-son duos.
His father, Dell Curry played for Virginia Tech prior to becoming the Charlotte Hornets all-time leading scorer. Before Steph was winning titles with the GS Warriors, he played for Davidson and is considered the school’s greatest player.
Dell’s youngest son Seth Curry also played college basketball at Liberty University and has played for multiple NBA teams.
Doc Rivers/Austin Rivers
Doc and Austin Rivers aren’t just one of the most prominent college basketball father-son duos. The Rivers are also the first father-son duo to be a coach and player in the NBA.
The veteran coach played at Marquette University before having a 14-year pro career in the NBA. Austin followed Doc’s path to basketball where he played at Duke under Coach K before playing in the NBA.
Doc is currently coaching the Milwaukee Bucks and Austin Rivers is now an NBA analyst.
Mychal/Klay Thompson
Mychal and Klay Thompson aren’ just two of the best college basketball father-son duos. They are also arguably the most successful father-son duos to play in the NBA.
Father Mychal Thompson is one of the greatest players to ever play for the University of Minnesota. Klay is also one of the leading scorers at the University of Washington.
The Thompsons hold the prestige of being the only father-son duo to both win back-to-back NBA titles during their careers.
Rick/Jalen Brunson
Last up on our list is Rick and Jalen Brunson. Rick Brunson played at Temple University before going into the NBA undrafted where he played for multiple teams.
His son, Jalen Brunson was a star at Villanova University and was a 1x college basketball player of the year. Brunson was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks, but became a star with the New York Knicks.
Rick Brunson is currently an assistant coach for the Knicks, where Jalen is currently playing as the starting point guard.
