5. Sherman Douglas (Syracuse): 960 Assists
Sherman Douglas is Syracuse’s all-time assist leader and 5th on the top 5 assist leaders in college basketball history. He was a key part of Jim Boeheims’s high-octane offense in the 1980s.
Douglas helped future NBA players Derrick Coleman and Rony Seikaly elevate their games. The Syracuse legend is also the only one of two players to record 20+ assists in college and the NBA.
He averaged almost seven assists per game and ended his college career with 960 assists.

Nobody was able to run the North Carolina Tar Heels offense like UNC great Ed Cota. The 2x All-ACC first team player was the leader of a great era of North Carolina basketball.
During the late 1990s, Cota helped North Carolina to three Final Four appearances. He dished the ball to teammates Vince Carter and Antwan Jamison for numerous highlight reel dunks.
Ed Cota is only one of four players in history to break the 1000 assist mark. Cota finished his career with 1,030 assists on 7.41 APG in 139 games.

1. Bobby Hurley (Duke): 1,076 Assists
#1 of the top 5 assist leaders in college basketball history goes to Duke legend Bobby Hurley. The early 1990s Duke teams were highlighted by stars Christian Laetner and Grant Hill.
However, they wouldn’t have been the stars they were without Hurley as the point guard. His elite vision and ball handling helped Duke win back-to-back national championships in 1991 and 1992.
He was named the 1992 Final Four Outstanding Player and became the all-time leader with 1,076 assists on 7.68 APG.
