Up first on the 5 college football coaches on the hot seat is Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze. Coach Freeze has struggled to turn around the Auburn football program in his two seasons as head coach.
He is currently 11-14 and an underwhelming 5-11 in SEC play. Freeze has failed to deliver consistent wins or solve Auburn’s quarterback issues.
The 0-2 record in the Iron Bowl has also put all of the pressure on Freeze. Another loss to Alabama will likely result in his release.
Lincoln Riley: USC Trojans
No doubt, Lincoln Riley is one of the 5 college football coaches on the hot seat. During Riley’s tenure, he has gone 26-14 with no appearances in the playoffs.
USC’s transition to the Big Tent has exposed their weaknesses on defense and roster issues. Over 20 players have transferred out of USC, which has put the pressure squarely on Riley.

Brent Venables: Oklahoma Sooners

Despite beating Alabama last year, the Sooners posted their second consecutive losing season. Venables has now taking over defensive play-calling and hired defensive coordinator Bem Arbuckle.
However, if Oklahoma doesn’t turn it around, the school might be forced to buyout Venables’s $44.5 million contract. The Sooner fateful are not the most patient fan base and don’t accept mediocrity.
Mike Norvell: Florida State Seminoles
Mike Norvell went from top coach to one of the top 5 college football coaches on the hot seat. Florida State went from ACC champions to a horrendous 2-10 season last year.
It was one of the worst collapses in college football history. The Seminoles appeared to lose their competitive edge and Norvell’s reliance on the transfer portal failed.
Florida State has Alabama to start the season and if it gets bad, don’t expect Norvell to last the season.
Luke Fickell: Wisconsin Badgers
Fickell was a highly-touted coach coming from Cincinnati when he took the job at Wisconsin. Now, Fickell is one of the top 5 college football coaches on the hot seat.
The Wisconsin Badgers have gone 12-13 in Fickell’s first two seasons. Wisconsin has failed to beat an FBS team with more than seven wins under his tenure.
Fickell’s inability to beat good teams and establish his team’s identity has put his job in jeopardy. Another bad season will likely result in Luke Fickell’s exit.
